Amcor has introduced a new generation flip top closure designed for condiments such as mayonnaise, ketchup and sweet sauces, as part of its ongoing packaging development efforts. The closure, branded as the 55 mm Flava Flip Top Closure 38/400, represents an updated version within the company’s 38/400 neck finish range.
The development focuses on material reduction and recyclability. According to the company, the new closure achieves an absolute weight reduction of 1.9 g, bringing the total weight down to 8.5 g. This represents an 18.7% reduction compared with the previous generation of the 55 mm flip top closure.
The closure is manufactured as a monomaterial structure and is designed to be compatible with established recycling streams for PET, HDPE and PP bottles, where infrastructure is available. It is offered with multiple orifice sizes and circular valve options to support different product viscosities and dispensing requirements.
From a packaging performance perspective, the design aims to balance reduced material usage with functional requirements such as controlled dispensing and consumer usability. The closure is intended to support clean and consistent product flow across a range of sauce applications.
Peter Briggs, UK sales director, food and beverage at Amcor, said: “The new Flava Flip Top Closure will help customers reach their carbon reduction targets thanks to its lighter design.” He added that weight reduction has been achieved without compromising dispensing performance or consumer experience.
The launch reflects continued activity in lightweighting and mono-material design within rigid packaging components, particularly in closures, as brand owners seek to reduce material use and align packaging formats with recyclability requirements across global markets.
